GROUPS
PANIC AND ANXIETY DISORDER
A ten week cognitive-behavioral group for clients suffering from this disorder, many of whom have a co-occurring substance use problem. This program is co-delivered by the Community Mental Health Program, Regional Niagara Public Health Department and COMMUNITY ADDICTION SERVICES OF NIAGARA. STRUCTURED RELAPSE PREVENTION
The SRP group provides an opportunity for people who are having difficulty dealing effectively with the day-to-day substance use triggers and risk situations to learn coping skills for relapse prevention. The program consists of 8 weekly sessions.
SMART RECOVERY
SMART Recovery support groups are a free self-help program which offers an alternative or an addition to other community groups. SMART is not a 12-step program, rather a program which is evidence-based and aims to build practical, proven, self-management, and recovery skills.
DBT
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced-based treatment program that is effective in treating a wide range of disorders such as substance dependence, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. It balances thoughts, emotions and behaviors by enhancing skills to regulate emotion and reduce/eliminate high risk behaviors. The individuals learn to take action in their own life creating a renewed “life worth living.”
DBT is offered in 3 different programs. Component, Comprehensive and Youth Comprehensive (under 25 years of age)
AFTERCARE GROUP
Aftercare is a weekly group that assists individuals to maintain recovery. It provides counselling and education specific to issues in recovery and supports independent problem solving, development of positive self-esteem and greater awareness of self and significant relationships.
EDUCATION GROUP
The education group is a one-time psycho-educational group designed for people who are mandated to seek CASON services and not looking for on-going support at the time of referral. The program consists of one two-hour session. At the end of the group, clients will receive an attendance/completion letter that they can provide to the referral source.
FAMILY GROUPS
Family Education group
6 week group that provides an overview of addiction and its impact along with a weekly check-in to support the skills/knowledge learned from week to week. This is an ideal group for any family member/loved one who is new to addiction and is looking to learn ways to support themselves and their loved one.
Parent Support Group
This group is to provide support for parents who have been struggling in a chronic cycle with their adult child’s substance use. The strength of the group is the shared experience from one parent to another.
