Counselling Support for Family
Here at CASON we define family as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, foster and adoptive parents, friends, co-workers or any other caregiver and loved one who plays a supportive role in someone’s life. All are welcome to participate in our Family Groups and Services.
Individual/ Multiple Members:
We offer family counselling either individually or to a group of family members during an appointment.
Groups
Family Skills Group is an open 8-week group designed to help families develop their skills and resilience when helping family members with addiction issues. Topics such as effective communication, boundaries, vicarious trauma, and behaviour management will be discussed. Family members will also have an opportunity to share with other family to learn and understand from each other. It is our hope you will gain new insight and strategies to better understand how to assist both yourself and your family member.
Family Aftercare Group is an open monthly group designed to support families who have completed the Family Skills group and are helping a loved one who is experiencing issues with addiction. Family members will have an opportunity to share with other family to learn and understand from each other. It is our hope to promote an atmosphere to continue to gain new insight and strategies on how to better understand and support both yourself and your family member.
Family DBT Coaching/Group is for any family member who has a loved one participating in the DBT program. This provides families with the opportunity to learn skills and strategies to become more effective in responding to and shaping the behaviour of their loved one. The focus is on biopsychosocial theory. Family coaching is a component of the DBT program to support family members with a counsellor to assist with the learning of new skills and strategies along with their family member.
System Navigation
We understand that the Addiction and Mental Health care system can be at times complicated and not without barriers. We are here to provide support and advocacy to those family members trying to negotiate the system for their loved ones.
